Abstract
Objective : This study was conducted to examine the effects of swallowing therapy using neurocognitive rehabilitation on swallowing function.

Methods: The subjects were five stroke patients who were hospitalized in ``c`` Hospital for four weeks between November 2 to November 27,2015. With regard to the oral and swallowing activities presented by the researcher, neurocognitive rehabilitation therapy was conducted for 25 minutes and imagery training was conducted for 5 minutes. The pressure value during swallowing and the pressure value of tongue muscular strength were measured with IOPI. For the intervention method, surface and shape recognition training was conducted. For imagery training, common activities related to the oral cavity were selected and carried out. The pressures during swallowing before and after the intervention were compared. For the tongue muscular force, the baseline was measured and compared with the average of measurements made during the intervention period.

Results: All the subjects showed an average improvement of pressure during swallowing by 7.66 kPa between week 1 and week 4. The average of maximum pressure values increased more during the intervention period (B) than during the baseline period (A). In particular, greater improvements were observed in the subjects who had problems in the oral cavity.

Conclusion: In this study, an intervention method for dysphagia that applies cognitive process and imagery training method to swallowing was proposed. The findings of this study are expected to assist the future research of more various intervention methods for dysphagia.
